Lathe economics 101 McElroy Manufacturing, Inc. (MMI) started back in 1952 by Art McElroy to develop fintube machines. By the mid 1960s, McElroy was the frontrunner in the fintube industry. By 1969, McElroy designed its first polyethylene fusion machine. Today, McElroy is considered the market leader in both the fusion machines and fintube machines. McElroy continues their growth by forward thinking, engineering, and technology in their manufacturing facility. That is why in February they decided to purchase two Okuma Captain L470BBM's with Kennematal live tooling and LNS barfeeders.

This cell is now manned by one operator and their efficiency has increased by 35-40% and has doubled the quantity of parts from their previous machines. Ruslan Ilyushenko was asked about the cell of Okumas and he said, "When the two Okumas were brought online we were 3-4 weeks behind on our part deliverables, now we are ahead of plan and adding more and more parts to the machine because of the speed and efficiency." He added, "We are looking to replace other lathes in the shop and we will be looking for Hartwig and Okuma to take part in that process." Hartwig and McElroy have enjoyed a fantastic partnership over the past few years and look forward to more successful installs and projects to help McElroy control their destiny. |
