Customer says Okuma reduced 4 operations to 2
JC & J Machine in Comanche, OK, is a family owned and operated CNC machine shop that is known in the industry for its on-time delivery of quality oilfield parts. JC & J has 15 employees and runs two shifts out of the 15,000 sq ft shop that is divided into two 7,500 sq ft sections. Junior opened the doors of JC & J in 1995 with the purchase of his first Okuma, a used LC30 two axis turning center, and purchased his first new machine in 1997, an Okuma Crown turning center. JC & J currently uses 8 various sized Okuma turning centers that provide standard 2 axis, live tool mill/drill and 4-axis capability of up to 34" swing over the bed and part length of 118". Junior buys primarily Okuma because of the overall quality of the machine, which gives him the advantages of very high machine uptime, long machine tool life, the advantages the Okuma OSP control brings to his shop, and the quality after sale support provided by Hartwig and Okuma. The LU45II at JC & J has dual turrets, a swing of 34", part length capacity of 118", a steady rest mounted to the lower turret and Okuma's Harmonic Spindle Speed Control option. (Okuma's HSSC option allows the user to change spindle speed automatically according to preset parameters to help minimize harmonics in the part before they start.) Junior tells us that the rigidity and accuracy of the LU45II along with the Okuma OSP control advantages have allowed him to reduce one particular part from 4 operations down to 2 and part machining time from 4.5 hours down to 2 hours and 10 min. The HSSC option allows him to get a much better finish without unwanted chatter and the elimination of heavy vibration also helps maintain longer tool life. These and other Okuma advantages allow JC & J to turn a more accurate part, faster and do it with less down time.
