Protect your machine tool investment

Protect your machine tool with Hartwig Preventive MaintenanceIf you are not making chips, you are not making money. Machine uptime and machine accuracy are vital to your business and this begins with ensuring your machine maintenance program is being followed. Hartwig believes our customers trust us to provide quality equipment but also to keep it running. With this in mind, our certified service engineers have created the Hartwig Preventive Maintenance (PM) program to ensure your machines are running at their peak efficiency in year 1 and year 10.

Why a PM?
A certified Hartwig expert who works on your machine does more than just change the wipers and fluids. They are there to look in and over the entire machine to identify areas of possible concern while your team is invited to participate and learn tips on how to keep your machines running stronger.

A few advantages of a PM are:
• You schedule the appointment time when it best suits your production schedule
• Cost effective in many capital intensive processes and equipment
• Provides flexibility for the adjustment of maintenance periodicity
• Increases component life cycle
• Generates energy savings
• Reduces equipment and/or process failures
• Results in an estimated 12% to 18% cost savings over that found in a reactive maintenance program

What a Hartwig PM includes:
The program consists of two visits per year at six month intervals. We have a comprehensive three-page checklist of items that we cover to ensure you have the most up time and machine accuracy possible. Here are some examples of what we cover:

• Lubrication
We change all the fluids and filters to make sure that all lubrication systems function properly. We peel back the covers to check all axes and ballscrews for proper lubrication. We evaluate the condition of the way wipers to ensure the way systems are kept properly cleaned. We check all fluid reservoirs for cleanliness and functionality, and lubricate the chucks.

• Mechanical
We inspect and clean heat exchangers for the electrical cabinet, hydraulic pumps, and spindle cooling units. We check the spindle for run out. We check turret radial and axial alignments. We check for lost motion in the axes; backlash. We check the condition of drive belts if equipped. We check machine level. We check headstock alignment and evaluate the operation of accessories such as chip conveyors and coolant systems.

• Electrical
We check functionality of all switches, button and lights. We check cooling fans. We check incoming voltage and transformer secondary voltages for abnormalities. We check commanded and actual spindle speeds. We check power supply voltages. And lastly, we check the condition of the cabinet seals to ensure electrical components are kept secure.
