Hartwig takes the puzzle out of cutting tools Offsetting cutting tools
Instead of trying to touch off your tools with a piece of paper and risking chipping your cutting tool or damaging your work piece, grab a 1.00 gage block. Use the one inch block to set your cutting tool "Z" offset. Remember to pull the block out from between the part and the cutting tool every time you move the pulse handle down in the "Z". You need a slight amount of friction to know you have achieved the correct distance for your offset. At this time you can go to your tool offset page and "Cal" "1.0" "Write\". Now remember, your inspection department might not like you using their gage blocks, but you can pick up a Grade B block for a small amount of money. This will save you lots of time and save you from chipping and or breaking those expensive cutting tools. It is also very accurate, within .0003. This works on lathes and mills. Good Luck! |
